Inspiration

The station design was inspired by Isaac Arthur's Science & Futurism with Isaac Arthur episode The O'Neill Cylinder Space Habitat: Islands In The Sky (April 2025), and rests on Gerard K. O'Neill's The High Frontier: Human Colonies in Space (1976) and the NASA Ames / Stanford space settlement studies that followed it. Concordia's own dimensions, rotation rates and momentum budget are worked through in the project's engineering specification; any errors there are ours.

Earth, Moon and Sun imagery

Solar System Scope / INOVE (CC BY 4.0) and the NASA Scientific Visualization Studio CGI Moon Kit and Blue Marble. Details, adaptations and checksums: celestial imagery credits.

1970s space settlement art

The painting of the Stanford torus interior on the safety page is by Don Davis for NASA Ames, 1975 (NASA image ARC-1975-AC75-2621, from NASA SP-413, Space Settlements: A Design Study), reproduced from the NASA Image and Video Library, cropped and resized.

Sound

Generated locally with Woosh by Sony AI (CC BY-NC 4.0), non-commercial use. Details: sound credits.

Materials, textures and plants

Surface materials, the facade, street and planting texture sets and the tree textures are from Poly Haven, released under CC0. They are resized, packed into atlases and recompressed for the web. The fetch lists are in the project's asset source manifests.

People

The family and residents are built from MakeHuman assets released as CC0: the MPFB2 base mesh, modelling targets, rig and weights, and the clothing and hair packs, each checked per asset. Recolouring, atlases and accessories are generated for this project. MPFB2 itself is GPL-3 software used only as a build tool; none of its code ships.

Everything else

The station, city, megaframe, ascenders, metro, hardware, shipyard, spaceport, shuttle, farm and exterior kits are original geometry generated by Blender scripts in the project repository. The artificial sky imagery is original and generated here.

Software and type

Concordia's own code is released under the MIT licence; the asset terms above are listed in the repository's licences note.

Built with three.js (MIT) and Vite (MIT), in TypeScript. Type is DM Sans, DM Mono and Manrope from Google Fonts (SIL Open Font License).
